Fully Charged film the latest Papilio3 installation at University of Surrey

Last week, Robert Llewellyn and the Fully Charged Show visited the University of Surrey to see Papilio3 in action! With slow grid upgrades often delaying EV infrastructure, 3ti’s solar-powered, container-based charging hub offers a rapid, scalable solution—installed in under 8 hours. The University of Surrey will use Papilio3 to support destination and workplace charging, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability. Designed for fleets, businesses, and public spaces, Papilio3 leverages solar energy and longer dwell times to provide fast, reliable, and low-carbon EV charging. Already deployed at sites like Bentley Motors, Silverstone, NHS facilities, and police forces, Papilio3 transforms parking spaces into revenue-generating assets while easing the transition to EVs.

3ti had a fantastic day last week with Robert Llewellyn and the FullyCharged.SHOW & Everything Electric team, with our latest Papilio3 install at the University of Surrey!

Slow grid upgrades can often hinder the rapid rollout of charging infrastructure. However, 3ti has developed the nifty, solar-powered Papilio3 that can be delivered by truck and installed in a matter of hours. Robert visited an installation at the University of Surrey to find out what all of the fuss is about! ‪@EverythingElectricShow

With a strong focus on sustainability, the University will use the EV charging hub to support both destination and workplace charging. It was great to demonstrate how easy it is to access fast, fair, clean, and reliable EV charging infrastructure.

At 3ti, we are passionate about renewable energy and committed to decarbonising the transport sector by providing low-carbon EV charging solutions.
Our approach transforms existing parking facilities into revenue-generating assets that support the energy transition, offering businesses and EV drivers a cost-effective alternative to home charging.
Papilio3, our multi-award winning solar EV charging hub, is helping to expand a reliable EV charging network. Built around an upcycled shipping container, Papilio3 can be installed in under 8 hours, making it a rapid, scalable solution to accelerate EV adoption.

Designed for fleet, destination and workplace charging, Papilio3 leverages longer dwell times to deliver efficient EV charging while optimising the use of locally generated solar energy. It is already operational across the UK at notable sites like Bentley MotorsSilverstone Circuits, various CouncilsPolice Forces, and NHS locations, to name a few.

We will be showcasing Papilio3 at the FullyCharged.SHOW & Everything Electric South at Farnborough International from 11th-13th October, please visit us on stand C32!

About 3ti

3ti is the UK’s leading designer, installer and operator of smart solar EV charging infrastructure. Our mission is to decarbonise transport through the use of our ‘3’ core technologies – solar, storage and EV charging.

At the heart of our offering is Papilio3, our  patented, free-standing Smart Solar EV Charging Hub.

Designed for workplace and destination car parks—including retail outlets, offices, hospitals, and leisure facilities—Papilio3 supports locations where vehicles are typically parked for a few hours, making it ideal for staff, visitors, customers, and fleets.

Papilio3 gives site owners control over charging tariffs and benefits from on-site solar generation of around 18 MWh per year, a potential saving of 3.6 tonnes of CO2 annually.

Papilio3 can be deployed even on sites with limited grid capacity, avoiding costly and time-consuming grid upgrades. Papilio3’s intelligent energy management systems operate ‘behind the meter’, a unique capability enabling EV charging in locations where traditional solutions are often not viable.

Our Papilio3 units now span the UK, installed across public, private, commercial and industrial sectors, delivering fast, flexible and low-disruption EV charging infrastructure at scale.
